Why do men lie? I don't understand. Why is it that men lie even if he knows his girlfriend knows without a doubt that it is a lie?

I once had a boyfriend who seemed to lie to me all the time. I figured out that he would tell me whatever he thought I wanted to hear just to make me happy. It didn't matter if it was the truth or not. While I appreciated that he wanted me to be happy, I would always find out the truth. Then I would be more upset than if he had told the truth from the beginning.
I think some guys are egotistical enough to think they will actually get away with a lie, and honestly don't think their girlfriend knows. I'm not saying all guys are this way, but I know some who are. The above mentioned boyfriend definitely was.

I think men honestly think they will not get caught, even though they have every previous time. My husband used to lie to me about little things, nothing major. He once made the comment that he didn't know why he bothered, because I always found out in the end. It's just not worth the effort, in my opinion.

Wow. You are describing almost every relationship I have ever had. I don't know what it is. They treat us like we're not smart enough to know the difference between lies and the truth. I don't think my past boyfriends were trying to make me happy though. I think it was a fun game for them.
It seems like they get a thrill from getting away with their lies.
