I never did get over my broken heart with first love and if and when I see him drive past I always get the same feeling of the empowerment he had over me!
I totally loved this guy in my first love but strangly enough I love my partner more!
But if we split up I still think my first love would have more power over me so I suppose in a way I will always carry a torch for him in my heart!

I am not sure that there is any good way for people to get over a broken heart. I think everyone does it in their own way. I think the best way for myself was to really examine my relationship and were it went wrong, what was I willing to compromise or not compromise and how I could use that in my next relationship.

Like I said in another post, "Every relationship is basically a 50-50 proposition. You both have to give something for it to work. When a couple breaks up it is not just one person's fault. Both people are responsible. A couple has to work with each other to be with each other." And when that doesn't work, it is not just one person's fault. It is both of their faults. The hard thing is realizing this and accepting it.

Breaking up with someone that you love is very difficult. I dated a guy for five years and then we broke up. It was really hard because he was my first true love. However, about a week after we broke up I found out that he cheated on me, so that made it a lot easier! I still was sad because we had spent so much time together, but it made me realize we really weren't meant to be.
