Do you think things have gotten worse in the world, just lately? I do. I don't remember all that much scamming going on even 10 years ago, although there have always been people who would rather steal than work. Maybe the facelessness of the internet has made it more impersonal and easier, or maybe people are more desperate.

That's an interesting observation. I think it's a combination of desperation and opportunity via the web and other modern technology that can block call id and forward. It's almost impossible for the ordinary person to track the source of some of these.. Scams are just everywhere today, I too think it's on the increase. I get scam spam almost daily (try saying that quickly.. haha) But, speaking from an older perspective, con artists have always been around.

The internet has definitely opened up a whole new world for the scammers. From the Nigerian bank scams, to the European Lottery scams, to identity theft. It's just everywhere you look now. A good rule of thumb would be to never send money to anybody who has solicited you online for any reason. Con artists have always been out there, but the internet just created a new breed that are much, much more difficult to catch.
